Fresh, hot, healthy pizza at school!?!

Today, it’s easier than ever to find fresh, hot, healthy pizza at school. Click here to learn about using commodity cheese for school pizza programs and the success of St. Vrain Valley School District’s pizza program. Shelly Allen, director of Nutrition Services for the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont, CO, keeps food costs low and nutrition high by using a great tasting commodity 100% Real shredded lite mozzarella cheese for her district’s pizza program. Shelly uses her commodity dollars to purchase the 100% Real shredded lite mozzarella cheese. Shelly has the cheese diverted to a local pizzeria chain who produces the fresh, hot, healthy pizza. Today, Shelly partners with local Domino’s pizza franchises to provide a “fresh, not frozen” pizza the students identify with and love. Shelly also bundles the pizza with fruits, vegetables, and milk to make a reimbursable meal.
