Pedal The Plains to Highlight Dairy’s Impact On Colorado 

Tour will reconnect Coloradans with local family farms

DENVER – September 17, 2012 – The inaugural Pedal The Plains bicycle tour will highlight the impact of Colorado’s dairy farmers on the state’s economy and community when the tour kicks off on September 21, 2012.  Points of interest along the tour will display facts for participants about dairy farmers’ remarkable on-farm efficiency and sustainability.  There will also be a dairy fuel up station at the finish line to help revive participants.  The goal is to reconnect Coloradans with dairy farmers who work daily to provide families with nutritious milk…Read More

Disaster and Drought Assistance

Dairy farmers experiencing losses of livestock or feed that are in designated drought counties as reported by the U.S. Drought Monitor index will be eligible for LIP, LFP and ELAP assistance. However, there are income and payment restrictions on these programs and only farmers in drought counties would receive payments. USDA has fact sheets on these programs on their website. In India, they call the blended mixture of yogurt and fruit, a lassi. In America, we know it as a smoothie. What began as the mainstay of juice bars in the 1990s, the ordinary smoothie has taken on a cosmopolitan air with the burgeoning craze for yogurt and our ever more sophisticated tastes. Jeremy Glas, the executive chef of The Riviera Casino in Black Hawk, developed his version of the lassi – adding strawberries and mint – when he was tapped to come up with something fresh and cool for a kids’ 5K race. Western Dairy Association (WDA), a farmer-funded organization representing dairy farmers in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, is celebrating national June Dairy Month by showcasing Colorado’s dairy farmers on moving billboards. In addition to promoting Colorado dairy families on the highways, Alice 105.9 radio listeners in Colorado who see and report Moooo-ving Billboards on milk tanker trucks can win tickets to see Jason Mraz at Red Rocks in September and free ice cream for a month.
